Thursday thoughts

Start the day with coffee, and trying to figure out what we have left to do for the UK Games Expo. We’ve done this so many times it should become second nature, and to an extent it has, but there’s always room for error… and the more complacent you get the more errors you make.

We need to buy hangers (for t-shirts) and storage ‘tubs’ for stock and, in fact, t-shirts. Quick trip to Woolies and one of several local ‘pound shops’ and we’re sorted.

Back to the office. It’s Massage Day (woo!) and Chris is having his First Ever Massage. When he comes out he tells me “I don’t know why I waited so long to have that.” Nor do I mate. Continue reading

Tuesday; it’s the new Monday

Haven’t done one of these for a while, and I’ve got 20 minutes, so let’s see if it’ll fit in that time:

Start the day trying to clear out the Inbox. I generally do my very best to keep my email as light as possible, but it’s stacked up a bit by my standards… 50+ in the Inbox. To most people that really is nothing – most people have hundreds, if not thousands.

In the process, fire off a few emails to people trying to confirm and cajole. Trade emails back and forth with Andrew Wildman about the upcoming UK Games Expo, and also about a Secret Prize Project he’s helping us with, which should be revealed fairly shortly.

With the Bank Holiday yesterday, all of the usual Monday meetings are bumped forward by a day, so we do our weekly ‘Management Operations’ meeting at 11:15am. It’s pretty much business as usual; all of the company managers in a room going through what’s going on right now. I talk mostly about UKGE, the trip to Staffordshire University next week, and casting. Continue reading

MiniCon Day Two: Saturday

I warn you: this post is long. Like, epic long, Task Force long… long. So grab a drink, maybe some popcorn, sit back, relax… and hear the tale of the 2008 Omega Sektor MiniCon, Day Two: Saturday.

Wake up, Rockjaw

Saturday started bleary-eyed in bed, where I woke up at about 6AM with half a hangover and not enough sleep. Both were my own fault, so I couldn’t complain.

I remember lying there in bed savouring the quiet time before I knew I had to get up, when out of the blue, some part of my semi-awake consciousness asked me a question:

“Hey Stephen; can you remember the PIN number for the credit card machine?”

Instantaneous reply: no.

“But if you don’t know the PIN, how are people going to pay for stock, merchandise and/or make charity donations with their credit (and debit) cards, hmmm?”

My eyes snapped open. A cold sweat broke out. Great start to the day.

I hopped out of bed and sent a text to Chris, who replied immediately – a mistake, because now I knew he was up. After a quick phone call, we agreed that neither of us knew the PIN for certain.… Continue reading
